North West Playtesters returns to The Sharp Project

Posted 11th Jun 2019 at 06:20 by Tom Clarke

On Saturday June 22nd North West Playtesters will host a free to attend day of playtesting the latest tabletop and video games, at The Sharp Project in Manchester.

Building on the success of last year’s event and their regular meet up group, the Playtesters team will be welcoming independent board/card, pc, mobile, console, VR and experimental games developers to showcase their latest projects.

Run in conjunction with independent games studio Fabrik Games who are based at The Sharp Project, the day is open to players to give their feedback on the latest tabletop and video games being developed in Greater Manchester and beyond. It’s a rare chance to meet the people behind the games and play them before their official release date.

There will also be an opportunity to take part in a discussion panel with prominent members of the gaming industry, meet people from some of the businesses based at The Sharp Project and learn about developing a career in the games sector – confirmed speakers so far include Andrew Williams: Programme Leader for BSc (Hons) Games Design, Bolton University and Baz Armstrong: Senior Lecturer, Course Leader – Digital Arts for 3D Games and Media, Oldham.

Additionally this year there will also be ‘Tabletop Toolkit’, a two hour board game design workshop run by the talented Anna Whitehead, director and designer at Ingenium Games whose debut game ‘WordStacker’ is recommended by the Good Toy Guide . Having developed games for Hasbro, Anna also teaches and lectures on board game design at a number of universities in the North West and is ideally placed to inspire inventors at any stage of their development. The workshop is ticketed, however attending the workshop will also give you a £10 discount to one of Anna’s full-day workshops in the future.

North West Playtesters Luke Perkin organiser says “Greater Manchester has such a varied and vibrant independent gaming scene so it’s great to bring together developers to showcase the projects they’re currently working on and get feedback from their peers. The event is a unique opportunity for people to meet the people behind the games, play their latest concepts and socialise in an environment that is friendly, welcoming and most importantly, fun”

Fabirk Games’ Siwan Owen added “The games sector in the region has expanded hugely over the last few years so it’s a really exciting time for an independent studio like Fabrik. We’re proud to be supporting NorthWest Playtesters this year and looking forward to meeting developers, gamers and anyone else interested in finding out more about some really exciting creative projects”

North West Playtesters 2019 is free to attend for all ages but please note that under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult.
