BBC Digital Cities Manchester 2019 programme announced

BBC Digital Cities returns to Manchester in February, with a series of masterclasses, workshops and networking opportunities for those looking to thrive and learn in the creative digital sector. Aimed at professionals from across the TV, digital and related creative industries, it focuses on developing digital skills, showcasing the breadth of opportunities across the city. The week will offer stimulating discussions on the future of digital technology, hands-on workshops and the chance to build a more digitally diverse workforce.  Most of the events are free.

Partners for the week include: BBC Academy, BBC Writers Room, ScreenSkills, Royal Television Society North West, Hello Culture Remix, Manchester Metropolitan University’s School of Digital Arts , the University of Salford, Creative England, The Lowry,  BBC Young Reporter and The Sharp Project .

Developing Digital Skills Day will kick off the week at BBC Quay House on Monday 25th February. This event at MediaCityUK will feature some of the experts behind short-form content for BBC Three and BBC 1Xtra, workshops on podcasting and how to create, shoot and edit on your smartphone. Instagram influencer Onyi Moss will be talking about how to start a successful Instagram business and blogger Holly Wood will be sharing her strategies for building a brand, developing engagement and blogging.

Monday Evening you can take your career to the next level with the Open Doors – Careers in Screen event at MediaCityUK.

On Tuesday 26th it’s all happening at the Lowry Theatre, with the Hello Culture Remix’s  Digital in the Arts themed conference and the Royal Television Society North West Student Media Conference & Awards 2019.

Wednesday 27th  is another packed day, with Storytellers United Hack Jam taking place at The Shed and for teachers and careers advisors interested in the Creative Industry jobs of the future; they can head over to MediaCityUK for the Creative Career Pathways session.

Thursday 28th February will be the date for the Storytelling in the Internet Age Conference at Manchester Metropolitan University, an opportunity to meet some of the UK’s leading Digital Commissioners and hear where the fields of broadcasting, games and technology are heading.

With podcasts, downloads and music streaming second nature on everyone’s commute, Digital Sounds – Fast forward to the Future of Audio at The Landing, MediaCityUK on Friday March 1st, is an unmissable afternoon conference, looking at some of the cutting edge innovators working in the field of digital audio.

And so as not to leave out the kids, Saturday 2nd March is the date for Raspberry Pi’s Coolest Projects UK 2019 happening at Manchester’s creative digital hub, The Sharp Project. The world’s leading technology fair for young people will be an amazing opportunity to get inspired to create with technology. Participants and visitors learn about making things through exploring the showcased projects, hearing from STEM professionals and taking part in hands-on activities.
