MUSIC law experts at Ward Hadaway played their part on a ground-breaking musical collaboration between the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and chart-topping dance producers Nero.

Carol Isherwood, solicitor in the Creative Industries team at the UK Top 100 law firm, advised composer Joe Duddell on the commissioning contract with the BBC and the contract with Mercury Records in respect of his work on the Dubstep Symphony project.

Commissioned by the BBC, this saw the world-famous BBC Philharmonic Orchestra link up with dubstep and drum and bass act Nero to play a piece written by Nero in collaboration with Joe Duddell which married these two very different musical genres.

The Dubstep Symphony was broadcast live from the new BBC Philharmonic studios at Mediacity:uk in Salford on BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 1 Xtra and received rave reviews in the music press.

A version of the track is also on the band’s album, Welcome Reality, which went to number one in the album charts on its first week of release.

Carol Isherwood said: “This was a fascinating project to be involved with and I am delighted that we at Ward Hadaway were able to play a part in bringing it together.

“Matching classical music with a dance music style like dubstep may seem like a real left-field concept, but it worked really well and the results were fantastic.”
