Manchester Launches New Quarterly Film and Video Event: “REC:MCR – Northern Networking”
A new meetup for production professionals, filmmakers, and content creators arrives in Manchester on Tuesday 20 January.
Manchester will welcome a brand-new creative industry event this January with the launch of REC:MCR, a quarterly meetup designed to bring together the city’s film, video and content-production community. The inaugural event will run on Tuesday 20 January from 6pm to 9pm at Campfield, which joins as the first official event sponsor.
Co-hosted by Manchester businesses Coolbox Video Studio and Triangle Facilities Hub, REC:MCR will offer production companies, freelancers, producers, editors, camera operators, in-house brand teams and emerging talent a place to connect, collaborate and share their work. The series aims to strengthen Manchester’s rapidly growing production sector by giving creatives regular opportunities to exchange ideas, hear from industry figures and build meaningful professional relationships.
Marc J Grundy, Founder of Coolbox Video Studio, said the event fills a much-needed gap in the regional landscape. “Manchester’s production scene is full of talent, but we often work in our own pockets. REC:MCR is about bringing everyone into the same room. We want this to be a space where people feel energised, connected and encouraged to push their creative work further. Whether you run a studio, freelance full-time or are just starting out, this event is for you.”
His co-host Alain Lolliot, Co-founder of Triangle Facilities Hub, echoed this focus on community: “Triangle has always believed in the power of collaboration within our industry. When people share their experiences and challenges openly, we all benefit. REC:MCR is a chance to bring the talented filmmakers, production, and facilities companies of Manchester and the North West together – creating new as well as strengthening existing relationships, encouraging collaboration, and learning from one another – strengthening the sector, together.”
Each session will include networking, project showcases, a guest speaker and optional breakout discussions for freelancers, emerging talent or production leaders. The first event is free to attend, with future sessions offered at a low ticket price, including discounts for returning guests and “bring a friend” incentives to support continued growth.
The organisers are incredibly excited to announce award-winning cinematographer Paul Mortlock as the first headline speaker for REC:MCR. A standout DP, Paul’s work spans high-end commercials, branded content and narrative projects. Securing Paul for the inaugural event sets the tone for what REC:MCR is all about: honest conversations, top-tier talent and practical inspiration for Manchester’s filmmaking community.
Campfield joins as the first confirmed sponsor and will host the January event at its central Manchester venue. A second sponsor slot is now open. Sponsors receive a five-minute speaking opportunity, a branded stand at the event and visibility across all promotional activity, along with direct access to a targeted community of Manchester creatives and production professionals.
